Limeburnes

Albany

Our whisky takes its name from the nearby limeburning kilns, which were once manned by convicts. The limeburning kilns are National Heritage listed and highlights a city steeped in local history.

Why Albany

Our spirit is created from materials produced in a pristine environment. Our whisky is distilled and matures in a beautiful corner of the world.

13 years research pointed to Albany in Western Australia's Great Southern Region, as the place to establish our distillery. The abundance of Barley, Peat and pristine clean Water allow us to create a uniquely local product. Just as importantly, the cool marine environment is ideal for maturing whisky slowly and quietly.

Local History

Albany was the first European settlement on the west coast of Australia. For a brief time it was the capital of Western Australia. Before European settlement there was a vibrant indigenous culture and reported visits from roaming whaling ships.

For many years Albany was a sleepy town, visited mainly as a holiday destination. The secret is definitely out, and Albany is now receiving some of the attention that a location such as this deserves. It is exciting to be involved in the hum of positive change and growth.
